At the 2025 China Marine Economy Expo, Mr. Cao Bin, Chairman of Changyuan Changtong New Materials Co., Ltd., received an exclusive interview. With 25 years of intensive engagement in corrosion control and protection, the enterprise has adopted a dual-driven development model of "technology + application scenarios". Shifting its business focus from land-based facilities to marine engineering, the company has achieved rapid growth in marine anti-corrosion by capitalizing on national strategies and import substitution opportunities. In response to marine industry demands for long-term durability and customized solutions, Mr. Cao elaborated on the company’s three major layouts covering R&D, integrated solutions and policy collaboration, and outlined its 3–5 year goals of deepening R&D investment, expanding full-scenario coverage and advancing global market expansion.

eporter: The company’s expansion from land-based to marine anti-corrosion business was not a random decision. What key opportunities and competitive strengths support this strategic shift?
Cao Bin: This move is by no means accidental; it aligns with national development trends and represents a long-planned strategic upgrade for our business.
First, geographical advantage and accumulated experience. We are based in a coastal region, granting us thorough insight into harsh marine conditions including high salt spray and extreme humidity.
We have also accumulated extensive anti-corrosion service experience for marine equipment through past projects in Hainan and other coastal regions.
Second, riding the wave of national marine strategies. The country is now vigorously advancing the marine economy, opening unprecedented opportunities for our sector.
Offshore wind farms, offshore oil and gas developments impose far stricter anti-corrosion standards than onshore projects — a field where we hold distinct competitive advantages.
Third, seizing import substitution opportunities. Amid current global geopolitical shifts, domestic replacement of imported anti-corrosion products has become an irreversible industry trend.
Our proprietary technologies and finished products are fully capable of substituting overseas alternatives, creating a critical market window for us to scale up marine business.
Reporter: What core characteristics define current market demands in the marine sector? What targeted strategic layouts has the company rolled out to match these demands?
Cao Bin: All marine market demands boil down to two core requirements: long-term durability and fully customized design.
Our development strategy clearly translates our onshore competitive edges into marine market strengths, supported by three key layouts:
1.R&D as the top priority: We have built a dedicated marine material laboratory that simulates environmental conditions of different sea zones to develop ultra-durable anti-corrosion coatings and repair materials,
breaking key technical bottlenecks previously reliant on foreign imports.
2.Solution-oriented competitiveness: We do not merely supply raw materials; we deliver all-in-one integrated solutions. From early-stage engineering design to post-installation construction services,
every scheme is customized to match local marine environments. For instance, our tailored solutions for Hainan projects extended equipment maintenance cycles by 30%.
3.Leveraging supportive policies: We actively cooperate on marine engineering projects across all coastal provinces to fully capture policy dividends brought by national marine development strategies.
Reporter: What are the company’s development targets for the next 3 to 5 years, and what new initiatives will you launch within the marine anti-corrosion track?
Cao Bin: Our objectives are clearly defined. In the short term, we aim to become a leading integrated solution service provider for marine corrosion control and protection. In the long run,
we intend to participate in the formulation of international industry standards.
To reach these goals, we will focus on three core initiatives:
1.Deepen research and development: We will ramp up R&D investment and establish joint research programs with universities and research institutes to tackle technical challenges such as deep-sea equipment corrosion protection,
further consolidating our advantages across our three core technical tracks.
2.Expand application coverage: We will extend our product portfolio from existing coastal storage tank applications to offshore wind farms, offshore platforms and subsea oil & gas pipelines,
building a full-range product matrix covering shallow to deep-sea operating environments.
3.Pursue global market expansion: Riding the momentum of the Belt and Road Initiative, we will export our proprietary technologies and integrated solutions to overseas markets and compete on the global stage.
At the end of the day, our core development logic remains unchanged whether we operate on land or at sea: guided by proprietary technology, powered by national development strategies,
we deliver practical solutions to resolve our clients’ real challenges. The marine economy is a vast blue ocean of opportunity, and we are fully confident to write another brilliant chapter over the next 25 years.
